OVERVIEW:

Techano won’t simply be another development shop. Recent news has further highlighted the importance of not just building “cool tech” and generating big profits. Inspired by the Design Justice Principles, we are committed to creating and advocating for a world where technology does more than generate profits and conveniences. Techano aspires to leverage technology to create a more equitable, just, and joyous world.

Furthermore, we help our customers build innovative applications but, unlike other teams, our work is grounded in the desire to mitigate any negative implications for melanated and marginalized communities. That’s why we’ve been very purposeful about making sure my team is comprised of people from those communities. Our solutions are reviewed by an expert team familiar with the ways in which tech can cause harm, unwittingly or otherwise. They can also help improve our designs that improve the experience for all users.

EQUITY.

We’re committed to creating better experiences for all users by intentionally including perspectives of BIPOC, women, LGBTQ+, and disabled communities. Specifically, we want to mitigate the harm technology can have on these and all marginalized groups by addressing inequities in access, opportunity, and impact.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER:

“Techano is about creating a new generation of technology that fulfills dreams while empowering marginalized communities”

Sheldon Gay, Founder

I’ve spent well over a decade learning, training, and working in various tech-roles. At the heart of each role has been the focus of improving the experiences and lives of my customers and the impacted communities. I have worked on a life-saving medication history application, an email marketing platform and a mobile application to highlight and uplift black and women barbers. I have been a part of successful teams and I’ve also seen and made mistakes that I’ve learned from. My desire is to leverage those lessons, my engineering, and tech-focused business training as well as my more than a decade of experience to help each client as best I can.

Many of you have amazing ideas for applications that will solve interesting and important problems but don’t know where to get started. That’s where I can step in and offer my team’s expertise. As my partner, you can stop stressing about whether you know how to code, have the best design practices, or even how you’ll have an impact in your community. Instead, Techano will free you to focus on their passion and their own ability to achieve their business goals.

My Acknowledgement:

I acknowledge that, despite being a Black man who wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth, I’m also a hetero, cis, able-bodied, et al man who’s attended and worked at institutions of privilege. I will likely stub my toe on certain issues. I don’t promise to be perfect but I do promise to strive to be my best and remain humble enough to receive feedback. As I grow this business, I will also be growing myself. Trust that my heart is always in the right place. If you’d like to help me understand your thoughts on how I can be a better ally in the fight to create a more equitable, just, and joyous world, just shoot me a note. I’d LOVE to hear from you. Bless.
